15th-Nov-2009 06:53 pm - Use Your Ears 1/1 (dialouge fic)
Title: Use Your Ears
Author: undrscoredom2nd (also known as nonymous)
Rating: PG for language
Summary: Ron thinks Harry and Snape are together. Close enough.
Warnings: None (unless you count a couple of cursing, and that this is a dialouge fic, rather than a story)
Categories: Humor, mostly

“Don’t be absurd Weasley. Potter and I are not a couple.”

Happy November, gang! I know, I know, kind of a late mod note, but we've been running like such a well-oiled Snupin (mmm, well-oiled Snupin), I haven't felt the need to force you to endure my usual beginning-of-the-month babble. You get my mid-month babble, instead! ~_^

Reminders!

The Recipe Book Project runs until the end of the month, when our dear [info]drusillas_rain will then compile all your offerings into a downloadable cookbook. There's still time for you to submit! Remember, your offering can be based on any fic or art, not just your own work, as long as you use the template on the informational post. If you're interested in seeing what's been posted so far, check out the "project: recipe book" tag on LJ or IJ. Also, for future posts, be sure to use the tag - everyone has been doing a great job of it so far, thanks!

Artists, your Print Calendar art is due December 15. If you want some beta or have questions, please feel free to make use of the Snupin community.

Speaking of calendars, don't forget to change your desktop to the November calendar (if you haven't already)!

This lovely work comes to us via [info]omni_sama. Is anyone else sad the year is almost over? I know I am!

The [info]snupin_santa deadline is looming for return participants. Your submission or an extension request is due November 15. I'm not the Snupin_Santa mod, but I know from past experience that you will get a lot further with the mods if you stay in touch, rather than "disappear" if you're running behind on your deadline. Get those extension requests in, and be aware, you're unlikely to get more than a week. ^_^

McKay is taking the month off from the [info]snupin_prophet, which means you might be missing some Snupin links from outside the community. First, anyone who wants to post a link list may do so at any time, so if you're spotting Snape/Lupin that you want to make sure the community sees, go ahead and post a link for us. Second, you're welcome to post your own links from outside the community as well. Finally, I know there's been Lupin/Snape content at the following: [info]hp_halloween, Daily_Deviant on IJ, and at the Ownficfest on LJ (1 story, several ficlets in the giftlets).

Participate: There is a Lupin Big Bang now, Huzzah! Sign-ups are open and ongoing until the first-draft deadline. It seems the BB will be run a lot like our BLU, if that gives you an idea of what will be expected. The [info]severusbigbang's submission period is winding down, and I believe the deadline is today! Hp_Art_Tales looks interesting and there's no commitment if you wish to submit fic or art to be used for prompts in the fest, so you might want to check it out.

Two more things - There will be a Snupin Santa Supporter contest that I will announce in detail closer to the start of posting. I will say that the prize involves the other "thing" - Chocolate & Asphodel 2 will be up before midnight! Humm....what could the prize BE? ~_^

That's it for now! You're going to be hearing far too much from me over the next few hours. *HUGS ALL*

love, lore
I <3 Lev Grossman. In an interview by Zack Smith for Newsarama, he said, of his new book The Magicians, I’m only putting in formally-published form the oldest, most basic tropes of fan fiction.

In Rolling Stone, Rob Sheffield called the album Them Crooked Vultures fan fiction with a classic-rock heart.

On New York Magazine's Vulture blog, Nick Catucci referred to a recent episode of 30 Rock as pure fan fiction, minus the part where he tells her to take off everything but her glasses.

On Examiner, Anthony Strain wrote that a plot element of the 11/09 episode of Gossip Girl has totally been done before, if you count certain kinds of fan fiction.

The (Lewis County, Washington) Chronicle's Carrina Stanton reviewed a Centralia College production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, a [Peanuts] fan fiction by Bert V. Royal.

Neely Tucker's piece on recent pro fanfic continues to bounce around the world.

In Twilight news… )

Finally, in the Weekly World News, Reginald Cunningham III reported that Joseph Cao, the only Republican to vote for the health care bill, in a particularly embarrassing incident […] accidentally distributed to Congress a copy of his Twilight fan fiction.

13th-Nov-2009 11:22 pm - Request!
Does anyone have a recommendation of a Severitus fic...
That then turns into SS/HP? With or without the knowledge of one or both of the pair?

I'm in the mood for something a bit twisted.

Thanks in advance.

13th-Nov-2009 02:40 pm - LAUGHING AT THE BIGGOT
It was the summer of 1952. I was 5yrs old and my brother was 9yrs old. My father was my brother's little league baseball coach. My father loaded my brother and I in the car and on the way to the ballpark for a game stopped and picked up two other players. He stopped at a convience store on the way to the game and gave us each a nickle to buy gum. We all bought a pack of baseball cards which also contained gum. I didn't get anyone special, but one of the kids who my dad had picked up said "damn N" and threw one of his cards on the backseat floorboard and rubbed it with his foot. After the kids on the team had ran to the baseball field, my dad took the card off the floorboard, looked at it, put it in my back pocket, and said "Hold on to this card son. He might very well be the best baseball player in the history of the game."

As I sit here in my office looking at my favorite cards displayed in one of my bookcases I am laughing. Proudly being displayed is my 1952 Willie Mays Rookie card. Tough luck biggot.
13th-Nov-2009 02:23 pm - WB Released Half-Blood Prince Script
Happy Friday! WB has released the Complete Script of HBP, and it's quite fascinating because we can read the directions given to the actors as well as seeing lines that were left out of the movie:

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

Papered in postcards

A couple of weeks ago, we asked you to send in postcards to surround us with LiveJournal community. Thanks for coming through! We've received postcards all the way from Germany, Finland, and Canada and from all over the US, including Texas, Florida, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Indiana, Hawaii, and Oklahoma just to name just a handful. We're thrilled with our improved decor.

Please keep the love coming for one more week by writing to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. Be sure to include your username, since we'll be drawing the names of ten random contributors next Thursday to win paid account credits!

Photos of the week

We have more dazzling images posted by talented LiveJournal photographers from around the world. We're hoping to span the entire globe, so please continue posting and tagging. Of course, you can also sit back and enjoy the view at [info]lj_photophile.

You can see a sample of this week's gorgeous photos and check out spotlight communities and awesome user content after the jump!

Whatever's decided goes into practice next Saturday, Nov 14th.

I wish WB would 'splain why they left out one of the most dramatic shots of Alan Rickman ever filmed for one of these movies? It's unbelievable. Are they just made of teh stoopid or what? That's a hypothetical question - I know the answer very well.

9th-Nov-2009 08:40 am - Snape IS
Inspired by THIS (thanks to Boushh on Chamber of Secrets) I did my own Google Search for "Snape Is." Look at today's heading ~ The Count from Sesame Street!

This is pretty funny, too:

9th-Nov-2009 08:36 pm - Food for creative thought
Okay, so I've been thinking about this for awhile, but how many Snupineers got into the ship by Severus? If you did, I challenge you to try and make a Severus-centred something (any creative outlet, really) from the following prompt:

Fancy unto fancy. Flight of the Prince.

I'm a Snape fan, myself, so I hope someone responds to that.

And all you Remus fans out there (and I'm sure you must be many), I haven't forgotten you. Have a prompt:

Marauders' moments and memories of Moony months.
